Word 2000 saving error

By jlunn ·
I have several pc saving to a 2000 Server giving the following message when trying to save word documents. "Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error (network path)". All users have full rights (at present) and there is adequate disk space available. Documents initially gave problems to open, had to be open from dropdown history list, sometimes when opened seemed to open in read only mode.

Hi ya,

Its sounds like your Win98 pc is sending garbage on the network and W2K will reject it.

Easy solution is;

click start / run
in the run statement type the share or the w2k server i.e.

\\%servername%\

That should do the trick and allow them to save, or have connectivity again.

Another solution, but sounds bizar is add another protocol the the win98 boxs to "handel" the traffic from the NIC.

All the best
Dave
