Word/Excel 97 Exit Questions

By jack.trachtman ·
When I exit from Word or Excel 97, after changing a document, I see the
usual "Do you want to save your changes?" dialog. But the option
buttons, instead of saying "Yes", "No", and "Cancel" are labeled
"Cancel", "Yes", "Ok". I've discovered (painfully) that they still work as
Yes, No, and Cancel. (I believe that some other dialogs are also
incorrectly labeled.)

Can anyone tell me how to get the correct button labels? (I've tried
reinstalling, and searching Microsoft's Knowledgebase.)

Many times when you reinstall the application it does not overwrite some of the existing .dll files, etc. To correct your problem, try uninstalling first and then reinstalling the product. If that still doesn't work, I've found that if you can't find an answer in the knowledgebase that you can can Microsoft's support lines and they can usually help you -- very often at no charge. I used this method a few weeks ago when I was having trouble after installing Office 2000.

I had a similar problem with dialogs boxes being different. The solution will sound off the wall but it fixed my problem. Go into the regional setting in the control panel and change the setting from English(United States) to something else. Reboot then go back in and change the setting back to English(United States).

It might be a good idea to chek your program version to make sure you are at the latest version before you uninstall, reinstall, reboot and all the rest. Many problems are corrected from version to version, this might be one of them.

It's also possible that someone has created a custom dialog box for this function, and attached it to the template (using VBA). If you then saved the template (usually NORMAL.DOT), it will use that custom dialog every time instead of the MS Default.
