Word formatting problem

By Eminent87 ·
I have a Word document, whenever opens it does weird stuff to the formatting in Word. I also noticed that in certain part of the document when the cursor is put over it, it blinks really fast and that this when the trouble begin. I can't seem to seem to edit the table column afterwards. Normally, I can put the cursor between the columns and drag left or right to resize it but now it does not work. In addition, the "Left tab", "First Line Indent", "Left Indent" and "Right Indent"(indenting toolson the ruler) stops responding. This is weird because it continues even if I start from a new document.

So far, the only way to correct this problem is to delete the normal.dot and start fresh. This works fine up until that document is openned up again for editing and the whole thing starts over. This is very annoying, does anybody know of a fix for this beside having to delete the normal.dot everytime? And this problem appears on both Word 2000 and 2002. Please help.

Either the doc is corrupted or it has a hidden macro virus. I would save it as RTF, close Word, delete NORMAL.DOT and then try to edit the file.

Saving the document as a different format will remove the MS Word formatting that may be causing the problem. Open the document using WordPad located under accessories. Press Ctrl-A to select all. Copy and paste to Notepad. All formatting will be stripped. Copy and paste from Notepad to a blank Word document.

Consider using another computer is necessary.

You may not have to paste it into a Notepad document. I would try copying and pasting the text into a new Word document. That has worked for me in the past. Once this is done make sure you delete the original document.

I tried that too but it didn't work. I think it might be from cutting and pasting, the user might of cut and pasted a corrupted document over and caused it to be corrupted too. I might just have him delete it and start a new one. But thanks for trying though.
