Word XP won't save file on Novell VOL

By swalker ·
We just installed MS Office XP.. Having problems with word saving files to a Novell 5.0 vol.

When a user opens a file in the users directory every thing is fine until he trys to save it. He can save the file on his local drive.

Word is creating a .tmp file in the directory on the server which gets left behind after word exits.

Novell is booted with the following record sets

SET MAXIMUM RECORD LOCKS PER CONNECTION = 10000
SET MAXIMUM FILE LOCKS PER CONNECTION = 1000
SET MAXIMUM RECORD LOCKS = 200000
SET MAXIMUM FILE LOCKS = 100000

Whats up.
Thanks
Stew

Word XP won't save file on Novell VOL

There's an "on the mark" MS article about this problem. Type the Q number in the search box at technet.microsoft.com.
"Network or File Permission Error" Err Msg Saving Doc

Q305323

"To work around this issue, turn off file caching. To do this, follow these
steps:

1. Right-click NetWare Services in the System Tray, and then click Novell
Client32 Properties.

2. On the Advanced Settings tab, point to the arrow in the "Parameter groups"
box, and then click Performance, Cache.
3. Set Cache Writes to Off."
