Work Attitude

By zeraus1 ·
My staff are mostly either have really studied to be technical staff or through experience. My problem is their work attitude. Some of them do not have fire to really become a technical staff. Always complaining about skills improvement. Yet when you give them free skills developement throught the internet they are not interested. They wanted those paid and classroom type of training that would allow them to leave the company premises. What do I do ?

Why did you hire them when they still lack experience? I don't think they really want to learn, they just want to get money working less. And if you put them in paid training, they will leave you and get a new higher paying IT company.
You are in avery difficult no win situation. You are dealing with work attitude, not how they work or what they can learn. Well if they finish their contract, fire them and get a staff that really went to school to become a really good IT pro.

Sounds like your staff should be flippin' burgers at MacDonalds or workin' at a casino!
I have corporate policy to back me up and hundreds of CBTs for the staff to enroll in to enhance their skills without going offsite. You cannot do anything toimprove their attitude, only they can change that. I'd tell 'em take what's offered or Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord..... you know the rest. The Corporate way or the Highway!.

Do they feel that the free internet training is not up to par with the training in the classroom? It could be they consider the Internet training is not a marketable commodity and the class room training is more marketable. It doesn't mean that theyare looking to leave it's just that in today's Job Market the Internet training doesn't receive the same kind of respect as the classroom training. First step is to talk to them.
