Xp client problems with w2k shares

By jrhr ·
We have 2 w2k servers and 11 XP clients. The opening and closing of documents on the shares, works fine in the morning, but does get painfully slow after lunchtime.
We have applied every update and ServicePack to w2k and XP.

Xp client problems with w2k shares

Are there any automatic process scheduled on the servers for the afternoon?

Does the slowdown ALWAYS start at the same time?

Do the servers see more use after lunch than in the morning?

Do the servers have more than the minimum recommended memory?

Other thoughts:

Is your network part of a larger Active Directory (AD) organization? If so, is AD scheduled to replicate in the afternoon?

Are you seeing any Error/Warning messages in your System and Application logs in Event viewer? If you servers are functioning as Domain Controllers, also check the other logs for Error/Warning messages.

The server has 768MB RAM, no processes special are running in the after lunch.
The problem doesnt start at the same time; it seems to have something to do with how many documents there have been open. As if the server doesnt see that all documents are closed.
All users start in the morning.
We dont have connections to other AD organisations.
Yes - There are some strange errors in event log, but none of them seems related to this problem: EventIDs Server1: 10006, 8032, 8021, 8015, 33, server2: 3019, 36871, 5774
