XP Hangman

By thorpe322 ·
Using XP Pro at home. Each time it boots up it reaches the point where normally programs would load in the background and begin to populate the bottom right taskbar. At this point the system hangs for just over a minute, each time. Everytime. Theonly programs running in the task bar are, Norton antivirus and Norton firewall. The only other icons are volume and the ATI console icon. Ive eliminated all un-needed programs from starting. Trimmed down my Services running in the background andin startup. I cant think of anything else. ANY ideas? Thanks.

Did you look in MsConfig to see if anything weird is starting up? I assume you have, but if not check there.

Also check these sites for some possiblities:

I believe your problem is the Norton software. Basically it is preventing the quick boot-up while it is doing some of its routine. We have had similar problems with this software and have gone to other to solve the same problem. You can verify this by uninstall one of them at a time to find out the actual offender. But, I'll bet it is the firewall... bad implementation. Take Care

I uninstalled both norton firewall and anti-virus. It seems to have made no difference. Im still getting a good one full minute of hang time until the system is usable after bootup.
