XP login

By jfiffick ·
I have a laptop running xp pro and it was setup with all programs and desktop setting before I setup the laptop to login to a domain. I created as user in the domain and it is the same as the local username. When I login to the domain, I loose all my desktop setting and my programs are not available. How can I login to a domain and still keep my local settings? This laptop will be on and off the network constantly.

jf - Which Domain? ISP or ?

Is it possible that you created the User (you) as a "Limited User"? Or, if you created the User (you) and assigned a password, are you now bypassing that password?

Hi Jf

For Windows XP, each user logon to that system it will create an user account in Document and Settings folder. While you are on the domain login, set all necessary program and links (make sure that account have administrative rights), once you have done the necessary settings, unplug it from the network and login as the same user account, as it do not have a server to check you account, you will be login by using the cache account from the system (this is done automatic), so in this case you will have all the setting and program you have done previous, but the only drawback is that you will not have all the network resources.

Hope this help....
