XP Pro ..... COA ..... ability to change the # after install

By Dusterman ·
We [ non profit ] recieved several Toshiba laptops with the XP pro COA's .
.
Toshiba was less than helpfull !
.
They complained that since we were not the original purchasers we needed to pay the full retail price $199 , if I remember correctly , for new load disks .
.
Were we the orignal purchasers it may have cost as little as $17 or so !
.
So here I go ......... had a "shop copy" to use for a needed file from time to time , and yes I loaded it hoping beyond all hope [ and common sense ] that it would allow me to insert the COA's from the machines ............ but no ....
of coarse !
.
Some one suggested sysprep ........ well since I had never used it ..... another 3 hours wasted !
.
Does anyone have an answer that I could be over looking ?
.
Besides tossing the donated laptops and sending a nasty gram to the ceo of toshitba ..........
.
Help ......... having a bald moment here :-)
.
Mike

did you try contacting the person/company that donated them and asking if they would contact Toshiba for the disks since they are the orginal owner and then you could pay them the $17. Doesn't hurt to try and it may fix your problem. Good luck.

for a copy of a toshiba xp pro cd, possibly SP1. I have 3 different versions of Dell XP cds here because some coas wont work if sp1 or sp2 is slipstreamed in, but will install then update to sp2 =\ Someone is bound to have copies of the disks.

Before you call Trashiba again,

Get all the documentation you have certifying you as a non-profit. IRS statements, documentation from appropriate state agency, etc. When you get a manager, ask if they can provide a discount because you're a non-profit and fax him all the documentation.
