XP Pro Reboots Constantly

By randerson7 ·
Machine reboots itself just after user logs in. There is no indication or warning. When in CMOS, this does not happen. This leads me to consider that it is in the operating system itself. Is there a setting change to make that will alleviate this problem.

What changes have been made since the system last worked?

No physical changes were made and, as far as I know, no program changes.

or you have the welchia virus, or the user profile is corrupted.
when booting press f8, you can select safe mode from the list.
once logged in you can check in devide mnanger for hardware conflicts,
run the antivirus and the tools, create another user to see if the problem is only with that particular user, etc.

It could be the blaster virus but I think not. I would suggest a faulty power supply perhaps. You could also do a quick ctrl alt del to find out what programs are running and see if there is anything unusual.

This is the default behavior when Windows XP encounters a System failure. This behavior can be changed by going to the System applet in Control Panel, select the Advanced tab and click the Settings button under the Startup and Recovery heading. Under System failure, un-check Automatically restart

To check why your system had a failure, check the Event logs for any error messages. You can find the Event Viewer in the Administrative Tools, or by typing eventvwr in the Open box from the Run command.

Your best bet is to run a virus scan and see if that pops anything up. Sounds like you might have a bug.
