    Locked

    by david.whyte ·

We launch the RDP connection, choose a desktop or server to connect to and get the following error message:

    Error Signature

    AppName: mstsc.exe AppVer: 6.0.6001.18000 ModName: mstscax.dll ModVer: 6.0.6001.18000 Offset: 0015b2f5

We have successfully run the telnet 3389 test.

Also it would be helpful to know what other variables may be involved, such as vpn clients.

You may want to post this in the questions section, not the discussion forum.

This solved my RDP error from sp3

      Hi,

This is one solution for the error

      AppName: mstsc.exe AppVer: 6.0.6001.18000 ModName: mstscax.dll
      ModVer: 6.0.6001.18000 Offset: 0015b2f5

The versions I had from sp3 did not work. The only thing that worked for me was to search my hard drive and look for the following older versions.

      11/07/2006 03:06 AM 600,576 mstsc.exe
      11/07/2006 03:06 AM 45,056 mstsc.exe.mui
      11/13/2006 01:02 AM 1,866,240 mstscax.dll
      11/07/2006 03:06 AM 73,728 mstscax.dll.mui

I made a directory on c:\runRDP and copied the files into it.
Next I ran mstsc.exe and it work. Of course you can just create a short cut to these files to.

Note: I tried to copy these files to c:\windows\system32 but it did not work.

      Good luck!

The user profile could have got corrupted

If you get an error “Remote desktop connection has encountered a problem and needs to be closed…” then try the following:

Login to windows with a different username and try to RDP. If it works then that specific profile from which you get the error is corrupted.
Goto C:\Documents and Settings> and rename the corrupted profile. If you get an error “Access is denied”, then login as administrator and then rename the corrupted profile.
Now login with the original username and password and try to RDP. It should work.
