XP wont detect floppy drive.

By briansim ·
I have a new IBM computer. All hardware issues were checked and I have a workable floppy drive. XP will not recognize that the floppy is present. How can I resolve this problem? Thanks!

First check that Bios setup,by booting computer, when startup screen appears press designated key to enter setup,at top of page should list the floppy drive and whether it is enabled

Open the Control Panel,double-click the System icon, check for any exclamation marks either on floppy or the controller heading, you should highlight the floppy and select properties, select the performance tab and check that floppy is working properly.
The last option would be to open the case and make sure that the floppy cable is attached securely to drive.

I've had already done the above mentioned, and I also took the harddrive out of the computer and installed it into an identical machine. The same results occured. When you go to add hardware it says that it is installing a device right now and youcan only install one device at a time. I believe it is a software problem. What do you think?

Are there any conflicts in the device manager? Also check under show hidden devices. Sometimes runinstalling floppy drive, and controllers under D.M. and letting it redect will resolve these issues.

The Solution to my problem...what I ended up doing was going into the registry and deleting the floppy drive key, rebooted. Then went to the device manager and saw there was unknown device conflicts. I right clicked on them and then clicked on update drivers, and it installed the floppy drive, controllers and among other things such as the printer, and usb hubs.
