By baegis ·
Tried to upgrade Win98se to XPHOME and came up with a blocking issue and would not continue.

Problem states an incompatibility with the video card and the main board. How come if all worked okay in Win98. How do I fix this issue or do I need tobuy another Video Card??
Details:
Board is ARD Jetway model J542B
Vido Card NVida-Riva Model 64

I would check with the board manufacturer to see why theboard is not compatible, before proceeding to purchase another video card

It would be advisable that you not install, because of the incompatibility with the mainboard that does not seem to meet the requirements to install XP,on the system

As far as the video card goes it could be that you have to update the drivers,or that you have to use a AGP card instead of a PCI,to which may be a problem that XP does not work with the graphics card

The drivers worked because they were built to support the current operating system,XP built on NT technology will use different drivers.

As soulrider said, do not attempt to install XP.

To get more information as to what the specific incompatability is, go to www.pcpitstop.com and run the XP compatability test.

If the problem is that the chipset on the motherboard is not supported, your only choice may be a new motherboard.

Other options:
A BIOS update from Jetway
A video BIOS update from the video card mfg.

Perform the install while connected to the internet so that XP can download compatability updates.
It is possible that the problem with your hardware was not discovered until after XP was released, and that there is a patch or updated driver to correct the problem.
