Y2k Certification ?? is it worth it.

By conerlyg ·
My Home office suggested we have a Y2k "certification" performed instead of purchasing over the counter software.
We are a small office with 5 workstations, Peer-to-Peer Win 98 network with MS office 2K
as our office productivity agent.
What willa "certification" offer that we already havent completed?

It will transfer the liability of your Y2K issues from your company to whatever firm they choose to do the certification. That tends to give management a little peace of mind even if they know their internal staff is competant enough to handle it.

If the business can budget for the certification then do it. Y2K is a very tricky issue. Something will probably pop up intermitanly on 1 out of 10 PCs. From small to large problems. If you are the one responsible for making them compliant. It's gonna bea lot easier to push the blame on someone else Jan 1 eh? If you've got the budget then do it.

Ditto Answers 1 & 3. But why?

Just in case "something" does happen, your home office wants to show due diligence in all electronic matters. In today's society, if anything does occur the lawsuits will fly. Congress has already passed legislation dealing with Y2K; a part of this is each company's responsibility.

No one is absolutely sure what will happen and when so, we do everything possible and then wait and see.
