2 IP's on one NIC, how to access a host with a particular IP

Johnny:P
Hi,

Am running XP pro and I've got my NIC configured with 2 IP addresses (statically). I would like to be able to access a particular host on my network but use IP address B (instead of IP address A, which is what's happening now). I've tried playing with the route command but can't get this to work (both IP A and B use the same default gateway).

Can someone help?

If both computers are on the same subnet, why do you need to use a different IP address? If you have two network cards, you can specify the interface in the route command, which may be what you want.

I guess someone could also write an application using low level APIs to select the IP address to be used in the outgoing packet from the two addresses available in the single network interface.
