If you're looking for password cracking help, you've come to the WRONG place.

I hope you have a good backup of your data because you'll have to reinstall the OS to clear out the local SAM database to create a new admin account and password.

if you tried using the "blank" password with the new name and that does not work, try using your old password.

If that doesn't work, then reinstall.

BTW try using a spell check ... using derogatory names inside a word is rude.

And it stopped working when he was trying to type in the word "account".

No, there is no way to rename back the account name unless you can figure out how to login using what you named it to. As for the password, you probably set a password on the account when you first booted it up, not even realizing what you were doing at the time.

I guess maybe you should not have messed with the administrator account without knowing what it is that you're doing. NOW you see what happens when you tinker around.

Your only option now is to either wipe the drive and start over with a recovery CD, or call Microsoft and beg for help. If you ARE able to contact someone at MS in a good mood that day, they MAY help you.

They may be able to guide you through this. Have your ownership information handy when you call as they will ask you for it.

Good luck

Hmm... I thought you couldn't change the name of an account (spelling checked) you were signed into? Am I wrong? But if I'm right, then it must have been another admin account you used. Why not use that one to log in and hopefully undo your mistake?

Have you tried using your password reset disk you made? You know, the disk you made just before you started fiddling with your system.

If you follow the directions in the original Q, you can, in fact, change your own username! I just tried it on my XP box.

But I didn't reproduce the error.
