The members of TechRepublic - A Resource for IT Professionals, will not assist anyone in the recovery of lost passwords. You may have a legitimate reason to recover a password. However, we cannot verify your motives and will therefore not assist anyone in what may be an attempt at gaining unauthorized access to a computer system. Due to the open nature of this forum, any assistance given to help circumvent security measures, even for legitimate purposes, would be available for unscrupulous individuals to use for illegitimate purposes. This is a risk that we the members of TechRepublic will not take. Please do not ask questions of this nature on TechRepublic.

If you have a legitimate need to circumvent a password scheme, please contact the vendor for the software / hardware and request their assistance. E.g. Windows XP password recovery issues should be taken up with Microsoft's technical support, Phoenix BIOS password recovery issues should be taken up with Phoenix Technologies, etc.. My nephew's Dell Latitude D500 power connection wouldn't work and I said I would take a look at it. At one point, I wiggled the power supply cord a bit and the battery charge indicator came on, but when I let go, it went out and I couldn't duplicate that wiggle. I pulled the mobo and stripped it down to nothing. I had the electronics guy here at work check it out under his microscope and reflow the solder that he said looked a little cracked. Anyway, to make a long story short, it didn't help.

I researched the issue on Dell's forums. I found that it's a fairly common problem on D500's. One person actually got Dell to send him a new power connection assembly under warranty, but said that he couldn't find a shop that would pull the old one from his board and solder in the new one. Anyway, to make a long story short, Dell's forum had several pissed off users, but no solution.

I told my sister-in law (nephew's mom) about all this. She thanked me for all the time I spent and then told me that she was a little pissed at my brother for buying a crappy used laptop in the first place. She told him just to get the kid a new one a year earlier when he went off to college. My brother does very well and and it's not like the money's an issue. This was all around the end of November. Anyway, to make a long story short, she said that she was going to get the kid a new machine for Christmas and I gave her a couple of contacts for the vendors we use here.

So, the question came up about what to do with the old D500. It worked fine with a charged battery, but unless you wanted to swap batteries every couple of hours, it was kind of useless. I figured it would work fine if it was docked because the power would be fed through the docking port. My nephew didn't want to use a lame docked laptop and knew he'd get a new one for Christmas. Also, he kept all his important stuff on his school's servers, so as far as he was concerned, he could use a school machine for the last 3 weeks before Christmas break. My brother had no use for a perma-docked PC and didn't want to spring for the $400 for a refurbished mobo from Dell or some lesser amount for a non-guaranteed board from e-bay or something. Anyway, to make a long story short, he asked me if I wanted the thing.

So, I said I'd take it because, as is well know in the forum, I'm a cheap SOB. Eventually, while I was cleaning up at work, I came across an old Dell docking station. We just moved from Dell to HP as corporate supplier for desktops/laptops and I would have chucked the port replicator, but I thought "hey, this sucker would work with that D500 and my kid would be happy with it". I slapped that thing into the dock and fired her up. Powered up just fine. But by this time my nephew was back at school. How could I log into this thing without reinstalling Windows??? It's not like I even had the disk or anything. So I figured I'd just have to crack the admin PW. Anyway, to make a long story short, that's what I did. It's really not that difficult.

Sit down in front of the computer and try every possible combination of letters, both upper and lower case as well as numbers and special characters. Don't give up I have confidence in you. Remember

Since your best bet is to try different combo's and different character lengths, you will need to be pretty amped.

Go to your local drug dealer and get 1-2 pounds of Crank/Meth
Do a HUGE line, I mean friggin HUGE. It hneeds to be huge so that you can work continuously for several hours before taking a break for the second HUGE line. Every 2-3 hours, stop what you are doing (time will seem to be playing games with you, so watch the clock for breaks) and snort another HUGE line. Soon you will be an expert at cracking admin PWD's, and everyone will bow down in front of you. Your typing skills will increase massively, and what people will see is you typing soo quickly, that your hands are a blur to them. YOU WILL BE LOOKED AT AS SUPERHUMAN
just remember, look at the clock every 2-3 minutes, you dont want that 3rd hour to pass you by on accident.
Once you have cracked the password though, it will seem that the computer takes a couple of hours of agonizing waiting to finish booting. So, just go outside and run around the block 30 or 40 times while the system boots. Just watch out, as you will be moving fast enough that people wont see you to get out of the way, until it is too late.

Oh, also to note: This is a great time to get revenge on someone, since you will be faster than fast. Get in a fight with someone that you really, really hate. You will beat the **** out of them before they finish the first punch (which will miss obviously).
Post back and let us know your results -- we DO wanna know

I can't believe the hilarity I find on this site. While I am sure that some are helped, it is also equally true that some are not. This guy looking to break the Admin password on "his" computer, well I am certain that he got his just desserts. Thanks guys for allowing some of the rest of us to have a laugh, or three.

You need a Friend and you need some specialized equipment.

You take the computer with the password on it and stand in front of a stolen large tracked vehicle and get your friend to drive the stolen tracked vehicle to-wards you.

Now this is very important you need to hold the computer affected by the password in your Right Hand and stand in front of the Left Track of the Stolen Tracked Vehicle. As the left track runs over the afflicted computer the Password will break and run out the right hand side. You need to be extremely as it is dark at this time and the Password isn't illuminated as well as it gets absorbed into the ground very quickly so you need to have your face less than 3 inches away from the right hand side of the case of the afflicted computer to see the password.

If you follow these directions there is a 100% certainty that you will break every Password that you try to bypass.
