Call for all networking gurus

darwhekaramit
Dear All,

I had been running into a strange wireless connection problem. I am able to connect to all the wireless networks for which I have wireless key stored on my laptop except one network. When I try to connect to this network, wireless connection shows excellent connectivity but when I start IE, "page cannot be displayed" message pops up.

I would appreciate, if anybody could guide me to resolve this problem.

Thank and Regards,

Amit

Can u describe your network setup? what is the router, your network configurations to your router and pc? and all those stuffs... From there, we'll know which ones are having problems.

    Dear Sir,

    Thank you for your consideration.

I am naive to the field of networking. Therefore, I would appreciate if you could elaborate on how do I find out network settings. The wireless network to which I'm not able to connect is maintained by my university. Therefore, how can I find IP address of nearest router to me? Is it possible to ping the router and check connectivity?

I appreciate the time you have invested to reply to my queries.

    Thanks,

    Amit

    first test for connectivity.

The funny thing about wireless is that you might connect but you sometimes don't get an address which of course would lead to "page cannot be displayed" when you try to open a web page.

hi maybe try and see if there is mac filtering enabled on the router if so the mac address of your wireless card would have to be added to the list.or check if there is wep or wpa security encryption enabled on the router if so with wep you need to get the pass phrase 64 bit and which key it is added to then you can go to wireless properties and set that up there
