CD/DVD Drive not closing

newjughead
I have 2 DVD Burner drives in my machine, these drives have been here for about 2.5 years. When i press the button to close the drives, they tray goes in and ejects, the tray doesn't stay closed so i can't get to burn to read anything. After trying for half hour or so, then they would close, i would hear the click of the drive locking and reading/burning would begin. Is there anything i can do to fix this problem? maybe change a spring or somthing.

If you are lucky, the extent of your problem is dust on the laser lens. If the laser cannot see the disk properly, the software will kick it back out.

If it is a mechanical issue, it could be dust in the track causing the drive tray to not completely close.

It might be worth the time to open up the drive and clean out any dust.

That said, at the cost of optical drives, I usually just replace them rather than work on them.

Aligning the mechanism can be a pain.

If the drive is just dirty, take a look at your fan system. If all fans exhaust, air has to come in from somewhere and the drives often end up being air filters.
