Connecting to the Iternet by Ethernet

jshaw42
The IT at the office said that I should be able to connect directly to the Internet without connecting to the network by the Ethernet wire supplied. This does not happen. I have also been able to connect to networks in other areas but not able to connect to the Internet. There is no problem with connection in my home office network wired or wireless. I really need to know what I am doing wrong.

I am using a Dell Studio XPS 1640, Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 64-bit, AVG Anti-Virus Free and everything in Windows Security Alerts is turned off except Malware Protection.

Thanks for anything you can offer.

take your laptop back to the IT office, and ask them to show you how to connect to the wireless internet. There could be a number of factors here.
    1. They might have it set up so the SSID of the network is not broadcasting.
    2. They could have a "different" encryption setup, one that would require you manually create the "profile".
    3. You might be connecting to the wireless network, but you don't have the correct proxy settings.
    4. the unknown.

Since its a laptop, you should be able to take it to them and have them walk you through it. If they don't, shame on them!

So this is a home network?? Do you currently subscribe to an internet service provider?
