Desktop icons

Jaysonrex
My computer (Intel Qadro Chip, 4 Gh RAM, etc.) has Windows XP Home Edition installed and Internet Explorer 7.
THE PROBLEM: Since the upgrade to IE7, the icons on the desktop are "unstable" and many of them - on reboot - lose their original design (NYTimes, WashingtonPost, Google Mail, Amazon, etc., etc.) and adopt the HTML design (an 'e' on a page with the corner doubled down). Other icons, like Office 2003 programs, My Computer, Yahoo!, MSN Hotmail, Nero, keep their distinctive design.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem that NOT EVEN Microsoft is unable to?

Delete the IconCache.db file in the "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data" directory. It will be recreated.

4GB of RAM is a waste, XP Home was designed for the average Dads and Mums for a stand alone PC at home, it won't use the 4GB and unlike XP Pro you cannnot use tweaks to enable the "usage of 4GB".

XP Pro is scheduled to be withdrwn from sale on the 16th of June.

Suggest you get a 64 Bit version while you can as I still couldn't recommend Vista.

As for your Desktop icons, who cares!!

Why not be like different and use your favourites and put a nice background on your Desktop that isn't obscured by useless icons.
