Disappearing PST file

ronc
I have customer who has a new machine running XP with Office 2007 Pro installed.

It has Acronis True Image backup on it and is using the client / agent for Trend Micro(TM) Client Server Security for SMB v3.6 which is running from their server.

For some reason I have been unable to discover, Outlook keeps losing its PST file. I thought I had found the problem when I discovered that the Trend Micro Email Scan plugin was set to delete any file it couldn?t clean. I changed the ?action to take? from ?Delete? to ?Pass? but again a couple of days later Outlook loses its PST file.

So far I have been restoring it from the previous night?s backup of the PST file but I really would like to find the problem. I have Googled this to death and am not finding much on it.

Anyone ever run across this before?

    never seen that

only thing i could suggest would be to write something that auto-backs-up the file or renames it...and restores it at a time later.

    it's a work around

... In the mail profile, where is the data file (PST) located? Where does Outlook 'think' it's at?

Have you looked to see if indeed the file is physically located there at night and gone in the morning? If it's stored in the local user's profile, what might be running that would clear that profile at night? Are you using roaming profiles? Is the PST file located in that local profile so it's deleted when they log out of the machine?

I have a customer who has the same problem occuring, she also has Outlook 2007 and Aronis True Image (Home 2009). The problem only started soon after we installed Acronis on her machine to do daily backups.

Since recovering from the first incident, it's happened again less than a week later.

Very strange, but I think you'd forgive me for thinking it is actually Acronis that's causing this problem.

    Anyone have a workaround?

I was looking around on some forums, the Acronis team say they've solved the missing PST issue with the latest update, and have accepted that it was a software fault.
