Are you using Windows 7 or 8? If so, they will automatically adjust for best resolution. Keep the 1920x1080, just change the scanning on the TV from 16:9 to something like "Just Scan" on LGs or something like that on yours. Check your manual.
You should use HDMI from the video card if you want both video and sound. DVI is just video. Just change the source to HDMI in the sound control panel by clicking on the sound icon in your system tray (near the clock), click "mixer" and change the drop down menu from "Device" to the item that has HDMI after its name. If none do, then the driver for the video card has not been properly installed. Check the instructions that came with your card.
