Hi. What exactly does the error state? Make sure the TCP/IP port doesn't already exist. Make sure you know what the IP address of the printer is that you are installing. Is the printer connected wirelessly or wired? And...Make/model printer. =]

Sometimes creating a port for printers can take a bit. Maybe the computer is still thinking and not locked up. Depends on what the error is.

Try to run "sfc /scannow" from the Run line, Maybe that DLL file is corrupt.

(sorry for not getting back last night)

Try to replace the msvcrt.dll file. This page might help: http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/fortune/570/msvcrt.html

It contains instructions on replacing the file as well.

IF that doesn't work, try creating a new user profile on the computer, log on as that user, and try to create the port. Might work.

Okay, after this I think I'm out of ideas. Check this page out: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/prnport.mspx?mfr=true

This is a VB script that can create a printer port without the wizard.
Open up a command prompt. Change to the c:\windows\system32 directory. Type "cscript prnport.vbs /?" (without the quotes. This will help explain how to create a printer port. Be sure to read up before you create a port and understand how it works.

    Example in your case:
    cscript prnport.vbs -a -r IP_1.2.3.4 -h 1.2.3.4
