Excel won't show formula results

i am using excel 2003, whenever i tried to compute with a formula, it only displays the formula on the cell not the result.

this happens intermittently. Please help me.

    Tools -> Options -> Calculation (Tab) -> Calculation -> Automatic

    Hi ,

    I think you are in formula auditing mode means that you could only see the formula instead of result. Try to press control+`(quote symbol, near 1).

    Let me know this works or not.

    Very weird problem, simple fix. For some reason inserted column on spreadsheet constructed from .csv import did not have a default format. Set format of new column to General and newly entered formulas worked.

    Testing showed inconsistent results, some column inserts worked while others did not. Sometimes formula edit worked other times required deletion, format cells then formula reentry.

    Bottom line is that new cells missing a default format yield inconsistent results...
