My backup device for all 4 computers in my home has been working fine for 6 months. A couple of days ago one of the 4 computers crashed and could not be recovered. I had to reformat it and reinstall XP from scratch. I then installed the external drive and it came up as a 137 GB drive, an empty 137 GB drive! I plugged it into all 4 of my computers one at a time (USB 2.0) and all report it the same way, no data and only 137GB. I used a Seagate hard drive diagonostic program on it. It shows it as a 320 GB drive but only 137 GB as being formatted. The program also reports that it has no errors and it working fine. What happened to my data (it had over 200 GB of data on it)? Is there any way to recover the data?
