Hitting space bar opens a 'search results' window.

sueh
Hi

I have a problem (well it is actually my daughter) that I don't know how to fix and haven't seen before. She is using Win XP Pro and when she hits the space bar (no programs open)a window pops up with 'search results' and below this search companion and then asks what does she want to search for......pictures/music/video.... documents.....etc etc. This happens every time she hits the space bar and before she realises it there are hundreds of these pop ups open on the quick launch bar. Has anyone seen this before, is it a windows problem, a keyboard problem. I thought it was with Office but she has uninstalled and reinstalled this program with no change. It is frustrating me to death as she doesn't have the internet connected and lives 36 hours away so it is difficult to try things over the phone.....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Sue

Keyboard settings section in "control panel". It seams that the keyboard(s) have taken on or have been programed by mistake from a program.
The other way of a quick fix is to go into the "device manager" (Start > settings > control panel > system > device manager) and right click on your keyboard and select "delete", when it is deleted reboot your computer. You will not be able to use your keyboard until it is re-installed by your computer, so just let it bootup and you will see a box coming up that says something like "found new hardware" or "found new keyboard", after this you should be able to use as normal.

Please post back if you have any more problems or questions.

If you can, get another keyboard and check if this is still a problem. If it is then the registry might not be correct for the keyboard.
Have you tried to change the language settings for your country, this also might be cause of the problem. Please check the language settings in the control panel.

Load this on to your computer(s) and run a check to make sure no malware is causing the problem..

If hotkeys and sticky keys are not the source of the problem, be sure to disable any photo previewing add-ons you have on your browser, like Hover Zoom or CoolIris. This is often the cause.

Hmm, I wonder if the problem still exists after 4 years?
