How can I buy a new internal DVD R/RW drive for a custom built computer

fallenn2place
Hi.

I have a Cyberpower computer that was custom built. It's been a great computer, but my DVD drive will no longer burn dvds or cds, or even read dvds. It does read program discs, but it seems that the thing is broken.

I've looked a little bit online for a replacement internal drive, but the ones I have seen are made (I think) specifically for laptops by manufacturers like HP, Mac, Gateway, Toshiba, Dell, etc.

I got an external drive but am having to return it since it either doesn't work with my computer or doesn't work at all. I can't tell, since this is such a weird problem. Maybe I should try to get another external hard drive and try it out or maybe I should just wait to get an internal one that will work for sure.

I have a friend who could install an internal drive for me, but I don't know how to go about picking the right one.

Any suggestions?

If you have a friend that would install it, just as him/her what they recommend. Either that, just choose an internal drive that you like; most of them are swappable; just get the same type of interface i.e. IDE or SATA

Download SIW (System Information for Windows).

    http://www.gtopala.com/

Pick the first option, with the installer.

When you run it it will list everything inside your system box.

Pick the 'Hardware/Devices' section and it'll tell you the make and model.

    Job done.
