How can I restore yahoo mail access?

chonert
I'm unable to access my yahoo email. The yahoo homepage doesn't come up, it just times out, and when it did, the sign in page timed out. I can surf the web and log into other sites, have already deleted IE and Mozilla cache, restarted my pc, rebooted the modem/router, tried pinging the site and it failed, checked browser and modem/router settings. This is only happening at my house and neither computer can access yahoo pages - both are desktops - one wired, one wireless. Any suggestions?

    Are you typing
    yahoo.com
    into the address bar?

If you are using a bookmark/shortcut or other pre-defined link, what is the URL of that link?

Is it a generic Yahoo account, or one branded and provided through your ISP?

Generic thoughts: Delete any yahoo cookies still stored in your browser and try again.

When testing, empty the cache after each failure to load.

I've tried using both my favorite for IE 7 and bookmark for mozilla - www.yahoo.com, and have also tried typing them in after deleting cache, closing, and re-opening the browsers. Have also tried opening mail.yahoo.com, but it says the connection timed out everytime. My yahoo account was not provided to me by my ISP.

It sounds like you are not being properly redirected by the Yahoo servers. Especially for the web mail servers, you are normally redirected to a domain like us.mc815.mail.yahoo.com
but it will depend on where you are as to what actual subdomain you should be redirected.

Once this starts working again, be sure to create bookmarks/favorites for the actual URL once you reach your webmail page and home page. These then will take you directly to your pages as defined in your Yahoo account.

Better than ping, which is frequently ignored by internet servers:

    nslookup yahoo.com.

    and also

    nslookup yahoo.com. 208.67.220.220

And if it isn't a DNS problem, it may be a Yahoo problem or a routing (ISP) problem.

The LAN clients must have IP addresses already or nothing network-related would work.

From my testing and troubleshooting, it seemed like the problem is with my ISP, cause it's only the pages for yahoo that won't load and all other sites do. My browsers, windows, firewall, or router settings aren't blocking yahoo either, and from the tracert the problem doesn't occur til it hits verizon. Like a lot of IT problems the solution is simple, but finding it can be hard, so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Thanks for all your input.
