How do I get rid AVG Secure Search Remove on all new tabs in my IE?

JADavis9
I have this darn thing showing up on all new tabs in my IE even though Facebook is set to be my home page when I first open IE and new tabs have always had that blank page thing until AVG trashed up my life.
My problem with all that I have read above is that I am on Windows XP and Internet Explorer 8 and I ONLY have Google Search in my computer and I have removed all others with that v link in the upper right on IE that says Manage Search Providers. Google is the only one listed and the box in the lower left is checked to Prevent programs from suggesting changes to my default search provider.
everything so far seems to address Google or Chrome or other stuff.
This stupid AVG Secure Search page pops up on me only on a new tab and it has a fallacious Settings link in the lower right that pops a screen that looks like if you just uncheck this pre-checked box saying Show AVG Secure Search Box on new tabs in the browser .... and then click OK it should go away. But, of course, it doesn't because AVG is a big farce.
What can I do to get rid of this AVG thing? I'm a newbie so please be a little specific and don't be afraid that it might offend me. Trust me .... you won't. Only this bogus AVG deal can do that!
It's probably some Add On but I don't have a clue about those and I could really use some quick help. I don't really need to learn all about Add Ons. I just would like to learn enuf to get rid of this one. Can someone jump in and give me a little quick help please?

i've never seen that in avg before, must be new. If that doesn't do it, consider another anti virus program maybe.

It's an Option when you install AVG Free to add Secure Search.

Unfortunately way too many people think that it sounds good so they click on it or more correctly do not uncheck it then wonder why they have it.

ahh ok col, that makes sense...i was hoping it might be a separate component that could be removed through add/remove programs without having to remove avg completely then reinstalling. thanks :)

Maybe it is an option when installing AVG Free, but my computer was infected with the damn thing when I installed Driver Updater. A **** of a problem to remove. Then I read a blog that advised that after removal get rid of one remaining folder "AVG Secure" in Windows Data. It contains a file called vprog.exe?? or something. It should be shown in Task manager. Delete it and reboot. Seemed to work for me, but NEVER install AVG on your computer. Why an antivirus supplier would install a virus equivalent is beyond me.

Purple doesn't know sh*it from clay. "Get a new anti virus software package" is his answer. Deem it useful? I DONT THINK SO.

@ supwoman ~ how would recommending a new A/V not be useful? If someone doesn't like what one antivirus program does, there are a hord more out there that work differently, pick another one...like avast, bitdefender, etc. And if I didn't have at least one clue, I would not likely be a moderator. My answer may not help you, but it may help others. Point of interest, last time I checked, I wasn't a he.

To uninstall AVG and then install it again and this time Uncheck Use Secure Search as you install it.

I don't have AVG and in the recent past I removed ALL search engines other than Google at v Manage Search Providers. And I look there and that list still only shows Google.
At Add/Remove the only AVG thing that I find is AVG Security Toolbar but when I click Change/Remove it pops Uninstaller Error - An error occurred while trying to remove AVG Security Toolbar. It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove AVG Security Toolbar from the Add or Remove programs list? Yes No. I clicked Yes. I do remember in the last day or so seeing some new AVG toolbar on my IE and getting rid of it.
I probably got into this mess when someone had me us AVG PC Tuneup to fix a mess with my slow running tablet. My tablet is running better than ever with this help. So what should I do now to get rid of this still page that mysteriously loads for no apparent reason on every new tab? Will I need to install something from AVG at www.avg.com to fix this mess and then uninstall some stuff? Will it be free or will they want to charge me something? I don't see a cost on their site.

If you reinstall the thing that left the crap on your machine, you might be able to uninstall it properly (sometimes you need an uninstaller from the vendor).

Dunno about costs, why don't you ask the one who got you into this mess?

On the General Tab about halfway down for Search Settings. Te toolbar itself can be killed by clicking the x to the left of the toolbar or better yet going in to Manage Add-Ons and killing it under Toolbars there.

That's probably why it isn't there. I did by clicking the x to the left of the toolbar a few days ago and then this page kept displaying on all new tabs. Since I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it, I asked this Question here on how to get rid of it.

Peconet - that link told me the same old stuff. There is a Settings link that pops a single page that has a checked box that you just uncheck to that the stupid AVG Secure Search page doesn't appear on new tabs. But it doesn't work for me and I've tried it LOTS of times already. I just joined their forum and posted my dilemma and asked for help. I even had some tech support chat guy give me a link to run some "remove everything AVG" and it failed. Probably since I uninstalled AVG and the toolbar a few days ago. So I'm just left with this stupid page that pops on my new tabs and I can't seem to get rid of it. GRRRR

At the top of the screen, click on "My Account", then highlight "My
Profile". When your information displays, click on "Subscriptions",
then just uncheck any that you no longer want.
