How do you install a network printer on win7 64bit form an xp host

jav
I am trying to install a shared printer from an xp box on to a windows 7 64bit platform. This is a peer to peer environment. Can't seem to get there. during the network install process the printer is being found but it is looking for drivers before completing. This is an hp 5650 deskjet. I tried to download win 7 drivers from hp download site but there are none to download. instrucions are that they will install when connecting the printer to a local computer. I did install the printer locally assuming that this might solve the problem of looking for drivers during the network install. Printer works ok localy but not across the network. When the drivers are installed locally directy by window7 7 device inventory, where do they reside so that one can browse to them. Any help or insights would be appreciated.

you are pretty much done. This is the annoying thing about new versions of Windows and the differential in hardware support. If the vendor would produce a driver, you'd be set.

You can probably send the document to the XP system, then print from there.

Hi Seanferd, thank you for you reply. Interestingly however I was able to download driver for windows 7 64 bit when I installed the printer localy. so at the very least windows7 has a driver or the hp printer. given that why am I not able to set up the network printer? appreciate any help available out there.

Hi All,
I have a canon inkjet printer. I found drivers for win 7 64bit & easily installed printer on a laptop running win 7 64bit. But the problem is that and when I share printer from another XP sp3 desktop machine, that I have, then I am not able to connect/print from laptop running win 7 64 bit. It searches & finds printer on the machine having xp sp3 but while connecting it says could not connect.
thanks
