How to Change default Web Page

lapfama
Hello,

I just bought a computer and comes with a predefined web page when I open IE.
To solve the problem it is not just changeing the deafult page using Tools -> Internet Options -> General Tab->... bla, bla, bla
Using this method it just changes it temporarely, because when I restart the computer it goes back to the default page.

There is something that has to be modified somewhere else.

thanks in advance for your comments.

If your PC has the yahoo, google, or any other toolbar it probably has been set to keep the homepage set to a certain thing. Check those.

    thanks for your reply.
the yahoo toolbar is disabled; and the google one I created myself.
the default page is a redirect query:
    http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?...
and takes me to a compaq/aol combination page

    Any other idea?

What version IE are you running? IE 7 comes with this default page that asks you to set your security preferences and everything. Is that it?

I had to set my default search and then answer the four security questions before I could change the default web page. It takes about 30 seconds and then after that I could set the default page to whatever I wanted. I think its set up to just run once so after you answer the questions it won't pop-up again.

    Hope this helps.

Could it be hardwired in the registry?

    try doing a repair installation.

In order to change the DEFAULT page one has to change the registry keys.
    Here is how:
    1- Open command line
    2- type in 'regedit'
for changeing the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' and 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER' the steps are the same:
Go to: SOFTWARE -> MICROSOFT -> INTERNET EXPLORER -> MAIN; on the right pane select 'Default Page' and change it.
For the 'HKEY_USER' the folders are have numbers; here you will have to find which one has the path described before.
