The RV042 is cheap, though it would be less reliable.

If the two DSL circuits are from the same provider, then it would be very likely that both circuits would be down at the same time. An better alternative would be to use dial-up or wireless broadband (3G HSPDA) as your backup.

For example, a Cisco 800 series router can use DSL as the primary and use 3G wireless as the backup, and even dialup as a secondary backup.
