How to install linux in sata drive

hello friends,
i have sata hard disk, when i try to install the linux in that it's saying hard drive is not found .
i try this command " linux all-generic-ide noapic nolapic " it's working but probs is its showing kernel panic booting time
can any one help me how to write in grub file , how to edit it pls

    I had the same issue when I used Fedora 5, so i tried a different distro. Try Suse 10.2 you might have better luck.

    hello friend ,
    i try this coomand to install the linux os (linux all-generic-ide noapic). its working but after booting itsays kernel panic .
    i go rescue mode i not find any hardisk there\

    I did t he same thing that noapic etc It installed (RHEL4) but at boot time it shows some kernel panic .

    I hope u have found out the solution by now
    Please help me out.

    hi ,
    after complete the installation u get the kernel panic error . after booting the go to grub and edit the grub line called kernel in that line u find noapic . in front of the noapic word u wirte "all-generic-ide" say boot than its take time to boot 30min its take after get in to the os .after that open /boot/grub/grub.conf u find kernel line u write same thing .

    Thanks Srinu your prompt reply.
    Actually i reinstalled. With that
    "boot: linux-all-generic-ide apic nolapic"
    But used disk druid to created just / and /swap and it installed well.
    Its now running fine.


    I'm doing RHCE course, Will seek ur help whenever required.

    i have used the sata hdd.but not install the linux in SATA hdd.not found in HDD

    change your bios setting use legacy instead of native.it will solve your problem.

    hello all

    i am trying to install linux red hat 9 on sata drives, but failed. i read solution that change bios setting from native to legacy, but how, while i am using sata drive with P IV (3.6 GHz processor). Please guide me in this context
