You need to be connected to the Internet to activate windows
Or you can ring Microsoft and activate it over the phone

Is the Windows XP disk the one that came with PC? (OEM)
Or is it a retail version

If it is an OEM version and you have changed the Mother board you may have a problem

If it is an OEM version and the Mother board was replaced because it was faulty you will be all right

If it is a retail version you do not have to purchase a new Windows XP

You are allowed to replace the Hard drive on your computer
And you will not have to purchase a new Windows XP

    Hope this helps

    Hi DigitalAI,

Yes it's OEM version, and I have not replaced the motherboard, I just replaced the hard drive. And I already connect to the Internet, but when I try to activated it, it was saying something that the number of times I can activate windows with the product key has been exceeded. Should I contact Microsoft or there is another way to solve the problem ?

The only choice you have is to contact Microsoft
Just tell them that you had to replace to hard drive

I have done this in the past
    Hard drives no problem

Just confirmed it was the only computer that licence was used on

Just tell them what you need to
    But no more than that

    You will do fine

You can either reactivate a valid copy of Win XP on-line or by phoning Microsoft Support. You do not have to buy a new copy of XP (unless you've tried to reactivate it more than 5 times)
