If you see this error message in Internet Explorer 9, you can typically resolve the issue by either one of the following:

If you get the error message when you start IE, then typically this is due to compatibility issue with an add-on. Running Restore IE settings will typically resolve this.

If you get the error intermittently or randomly when you browse, this could be due to an old display driver that doesn't handle hardware acceleration very well. Select "Use software rendering" under internet options - advanced - Accelerated Graphics. If dropping down to software rendering helps, then start checking for an updated driver to install. While you could leave your browser in software rendering mode, you won't see the performance gains without an updated display driver. If SW rendering doesn't resolve, then it's likely to be an add-on.
