Internet randomly cuts out, then comes back on.

I have a Linksys 2.4 GHz 802.11g wireless-G PCI adapter with speedbooster installed on my computer. We use a D-Link router that can use hard wire or wireless. I love to play MMORPGs, but while I'm playing, I can count on my internet just totally cutting out for around 10 seconds or so, and then coming back up. This doesn't happen to any of the computers in the household except mine, and it wasn't always like this. I believe my little brother messed with the setting somehow and I can't figure out what is wrong. Anyone have any solutions as to what might be happening?

You say it "cuts out". Is it your computer dropping the wireless connection, or is the router disconnecting from the ISP? Do you see any pattern to the "cut outs", like does it happen every 10 minutes or so?

The setup in many devices, including routers, has a "keep alive" feature where, without it turned on, the device goes to sleep during "periods of inactivity". Not all programs are seen as "activity", depending on the communications protocol they use. In the old days, IRC or chatting over MSN Messenger was not considered to be "activity", so some ISP's would drop the connection even though YOU thought you were "being active" by chatting away. If we can figure out which device is "cutting out", maybe we can find the "keep alive" settings for that device.

interesting. well it usually cuts out while im playing world of warcraft haha I think it has also cut out while playing another game called age of empires while on a LAN game. I haven't seen whether it cuts out while im NOT playing any games online though. How would I go about checking which device it is? and yes it seems to be sortof a pattern once it gets started. But it doesn't happen every single time I'm playing
