Is junction command reliable?

Healer
In order to constantly back up my Outlook.pst, I created a symbolic link in the dropbox directory of the file using the junction.exe command. I used the command 'junction "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\My Documents\Dropbox\%username% Outlook Files" "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\My Documents\Outlook Files"' Not too long later I found the file was too big to the capacity I have with dropbox. So I deleted the link in the dropbox directory.

Not long later I found the Outlook.pst file disappeared from the Outlook directory. I was very disappointed. I expected I would have deleted only the link and not the actual file. How did that happen?

By the way, is it really a link that I would have created, not another copy of the file?
