Joining into domain fails

sagar_rabi03
My DC is a windows 2000 Server . When I try to join an XP machine into the domain , I dont get any error message and is able to join it to the Domain . But for a Windows 2000 Professional or a Windows 2000 Server Machine , When I try to join it to the domain , I get an error message "The network path could not be found" . I make host file entries but that also doesn't solve my problem . When I try to ping the domain controller , It gives me a reply . Can somebody suggest me a solution for this .

Check the DNS settings, make sure its pointing the domain's DNS servers and that the AD and DC host entries are found there.

Do you have a WINS server active? I have found that making sure that the WINS server is running and that your TCP/IP settings are set to point at it, them you can join the domain.

Are you using the short name eg MyDomain or using the FQDN e.g. MyDomain.co.uk? Try entering the full domain name, Win 2000 domains do not require WINS but its useful if you use short names a lot.
