It could be an overheating issue which is common in laptops that are several years old. You need to make sure the built up dirt, dust, pet hair etc is cleaned out of the CPU fan and exhaust vents. It is better performed by partially disassembling to get to the actual CPU fan than it is to just blowing through the vents. Blowing through the vents usually does not break up the big chunk of accumulated junk. Just a thought...
