missing or corrupt C:\windows\system32\config\system ?

ownedcasey
I have a foxconn MB running XP. The computer was running fine for years, then all of a sudden it won't start up and I get this error:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
C:\windows\system32\config\system

I have placed the xp cd in the rom and tried to reboot from cd and it won't. I tried to enter the repair screen and it won't. I went into the BIOS and selected the cd rom drive as the only start up source. F12 won't work. F8 won't work. No matter what way I try to get this POS to load from the start up disk it will not do it. Does anyone have a workaround?

    And it's a bootable CD

And the PC is capable of booting from CD (some very old PCs cannot do that)

then it's a hardware problem (or damaged CDROM)

Either the power supply has stopped providing the 5Volts to the CD-ROM drive, or maybe some other issue like IDE controller on motherboard is dead or cable is unplugged, or the CDROM drive is bad. Does the CDROM drive show up in Bios?

    hi
first you must do some tings , disconnect IDE of harddisk then boot PC WITH CDROM only, if boot ok then replace IDE cable of HARDISK, if not booting then replace cable IDE of CDROM or may be CDROM bad .
also , this probelm "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
C:\windows\system32\config\system " need only chkdsk /r from any boot cd such heirns or winxp
