What I have discovered is that my son, who bought two computers at the same time and saved one for me until I came to visit him (I live in Spain) had exactly the same problem. As his computer was under guarantee he had it repaired by the seller. Turned out to be a defective HD which was replaced. I have discovered the guarantee on mine runs out on the 5th February, so am making hasty arrangements to get it sorted before then! Will let you know how I get on. Although I had backed up most of the stuff on the HD there is still some things I would like to retrieve. Am I likely to lose it now though?
