Hi again - I have just received an e-mail from the manufacturer saying my computer has been booked in for repair, under warranty, and will be collected in a few days time. The e-mail also said, 'In 2-3 working days you will receive a letter containing instructions regarding the booking of your collection. The letter will also contain very important terms and conditions in particular with regards to data loss.' However, bearing in mind what you said, I will request (nicely) if they can rescue any data from the HD should they replace it. Thank you for your suggestion as I didn't think about the implications of data loss.
