My software cannot find wireless network for upgrading

rg527
Dear all:

I am using a wireless connection with my laptop (windows XP). It seems that the connection is great and I can access internet through Firefox or IE. However, whenever I try to do the update of my softwares, such as symantec liveupdate, the software cannot find my wireless connection. When I turn to internet options in control panel, I don't see any option to configure a wireless connection. Any idea what the problem is? (I have not used any firewall besides windows firewall)

Check the download manager you are using and try to download the norton update from their website and disable firewall for the wireless connection. If it does not work contact me for more ideas

May I know if you have a router? Most router has built-in firewall. Try turning off your windows firewall as well as symantec firewall and see if you can get online.

Also for your wireless configuration...If you are using windows xp,they have a built-in utility. And if your pc has a wireless adapter with another utility, that maybe is running. So if you want to configure the wireless settings, try using your pc's wireless adapter's utility...

Make sure your network connection is "trusted" by looking at the norton personal firewall settings, if not you will still be able to get internet access as by default all outbound traffic to the internet is allowed, but inbound traffic such as live update could be restricted, my guess is that you are not able to receive windows updates either.
If you want a quick fix to this go to softpedia.com and download dial-a-fix, it works every time for me.
