My wife was given a desktop from her school. I put it togetherover the weekend. but i'm not able to go online. i called my cable company, to see if there was a problem on there end.. and it was not. but someone whom i was on the phone with, took me throught a couple of steps. and she told me, that the reason you can't go online cause you can't pull up the IP.address, or someone from the school has block it.. can anyone help

And also assuming it has an ethernet port that is plugged into a working Internet router of some sort.

Then the fix would be to go into Windows Control Panel and fiddle with the TCP/IP settings to ensure that the PC is set to use DHCP, which dynamically requests an IP address, versus having a fixed IP address set by the school.

Not knowing what version of Windows, what you need to do is, for your version of Windows do a Google on 'enable DHCP for Windows XP' (or whatever version you have)
