OK I have a interesting question here relating to I tunes

OH Smeg
A friend brought over a Dell Vostro 1710 and the stated issue what the I Tunes will not work. She had tried repairing I Tunes and then deleting it scanning the Registry and reloading I Tunes but it had the same effect a curt message saying that the I Tunes Folder in My Music was not available/Missing.

I've done the normal things but now I'm stuck. I have deleted every Apple piece of software scanned the Registry with CCleaner rebooted and then reinstalled I Tunes several times now and I'm still getting the same results.

I have changed a Second User Account to a Limited Account on this computer deleted any reference to any Apple Product in both User Accounts scanned and cleaned the Registry and then reinstalled I Tunes and this time I was prompted to Accept the License Agreement when I Tunes started to open. then it reverted to the same Window that said that I Tunes was not available or there in My Music or any other Location on the HDD.

There is only 1 Partition other then the Recovery Partition on this NB and where I'm not sure is a Fax Program called PanFax which is used in conjunction with Skype but nothing else looks suspicious and this NB has been working correctly for at least several Months when it was first put into service in November 2008.

Other than I tunes no working or installing the I Tunes Folder when it is installed after a clean install everything else is working.

I'M stuck anyone have any Ideas?

Which allowed me to load a new Library or at least set the location where the Library was.

I installed several versions of I Tunes and with every attempt I was greeted with a message that the library was not installed and after a new install after scanning and clearing the Registry and a reboot that message was correct I Tunes Did Not create the Library files when I installed it.

Go Figure what was happening I don't want anything to do with I Tunes it's a nightmare every time I get a problem.

Was it the press and hold shift key to force it to create a library that worked?

    -or-

Was it the installing an older version that worked?

    Curious minds want to know?

I feel like Middletons roustabout as I've never used an Ipod. There is an interesting discussion here where they reloaded library dll's to get it to run. They are talking about NliTe but it may help.

Edit: to add Press and hold on the shift key then run the Itunes , the menu will ask you to create new library

It's the newest version of I Tunes that I downloaded earlier today 8.1.1.11 and I did try something a bit older 8.0.1.11 which asked did I accept the License Agreement after I installed it the last time then went straight back to the missing Files mainly the I Tunes Library File.

The OS is XP Pro SP3 and it's fully patched.

Another thing that I'm not 100% sure on is that they have Office 2007 Ultimate Loaded on this computer, but I don't think that has anything to do with it, though none on my usual customers are running any form of Office 2007 they are all using the 2003 Professional Version.
