The only way I have ever accomplished it was to zero the router and re-configure from a wired connection to the router. I then took the encryption key and copied it into a notepad file which I encrypted and stored the key on a small flash drive.

Now if I ever need the password again, I can plug in the flash, un-encrypt the file and I am good to go. Re-encrypt when finished and put your key on the flash. Back up the flash drive every 30, 60, or 90 days to ROM. If you choose to, take the extra step of re-setting the router pass just prior to doing back ups.

    Good luck!

The default admin password is documented in the manual for the router. If the password was changed and you cannot access the admin interface, you will need to do a factory reset. Usually it involves pressing a button which may be accessible with a sharp object. The manual will tell you all about it. You can download the PDF manual from here but very slowly, unfortunately: http://tinyurl.com/fgj39

If you have backed up the configuration settings into a file, you should be able to restore them easily.

When you do a factory reset, the IP address of the router is reset to the default IP address mentioned in the manual. If you connect your PC to the router using a LAN cable and change the IP address of the PC to be in the same subnet, you should be able to browse to the admin interface using the default IP address, for example: http://192.168.0.1 You need to check the manual first for the correct IP address and password.

My roommate has a Linksys wrt54g router and I pay for the internet also he put a password on it and wont tell me! He also put a time stamp on my static ip. now since I pay for the internet sevice too that is not a nice thing to do. I need something that can crack the password through the HTTP protocol so I can lift this time stamp. With out resting the router because then all the configs and static IPs are lost! and we have too many to lose. can any one help?
