REMOVABLE DISK.EXE VIRUS

amos89
I have this virus in my flash disk and it has now jumped in my laptop too. The flash disk is inaccessible and the laptop unusable; when i start it up it tells me "Your computer has affected damaged virus scan and is shut down" and then shuts down.
i tried deleting this virus from the registry and that formatted the flash disk. on the next log in(safe mode) the virus was still there in the registry.
All my data in the flash disk is lost.My laptop cant be next!! Please help urgently.

What make and model of laptop?
What operating system are you running?
What point in the boot sequence does this warning appear? How far can you get before the message pops up?

Is this a Blue Screen of Death?

Are you running anti-virus scans from Safe Mode? Is that still possible?
What anti-virus program are you using?

When in windows and the shutdown timer starts. open a command prompt and type shutdown -a.

Here is some better info on it.

Download HijackThis and run it and then go to the site below to analyze it or post the log file here.

HijackThis log file analysis

Hijack This opens you a possibility to find and fix nasty entries on your computer easier. Therefore it will scan special parts in the registry and on your harddisk and compare them with the default settings. If there is some abnormality detected on your computer HijackThis will save them into a logfile. In order to find out what entries are nasty and what are installed by the user, you need some background information.

A logfile is not so easy to analyze. Even for an advanced computer user. With the help of this automatic analyzer you are able to get some additional support. Just paste your complete logfile into the textbox at the bottom of this page. Due to a few misunderstandings, I just want to make it clear that this site provides only an online analysis, and not HijackThis the program.

    You can also try this.
Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, install it and update it and scan the PC with System Restore turned off, turn it back on later on when the PC is cleaned.

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

I would keep scanning with it until it is clean by closing out and rebooting and running it again.
Just to be on the safe side when you finish do an online scan with Bitdefender.

    Try this,

first kill the .exe process for the virus on task manager, that should stop the virus for functioning for the time being
second, delete all of the files and folders of the virus from you computer (if present)
third, clean your registry by deleting the remains of the virus

that is a very generic way to remove viruses, you may need to download a new virus scanner, I would restart your computer in safe mode and do a Virus Scan Download to detect the virus

    hope that helps
