You can install the reference drivers from Intel.

The Matrix Storage manager Utility has instructions for creating initial installation storage driver files.

Please note: If you are attempting to switch from Vista to XP you may have problems finding drivers for other devices. Most of the posted drivers for this system are Vista only.

Here are a couple of user support links.

It is ALWAYS best to check for drivers before starting any OS change or reload process.

That first link is the 1 ive been looking for thanks, been to uktsupport thought they were naff, last link dead. After posting this i did manage to download the files thats on the intel site from a dell support site, plus f6lpy but wasnt sure if they were right. Not tried yet but confident got the right s/w now, it looks simple enough! Just out of interest im curious to know why this is necessary on some machines & not others, wondered if it had something do with the cmos.

depends on whether your OS has the particular drivers shipped with it, or if the hardware uses available generic drivers.
