SATE to IDE convertion Heck!!!!

Ok, to start off we Ive been working on this project for about 2 weeks. Originally my supervisor wanted me to install a 150 GB Seagate Barracuda SATA hard drive on a Gateway 400.

Of course, there are no on board SATA controllers I can plug my cable into so we purchased a PCI 4 port SATA card, and well to make a long story short it didn't work out so we purchased a SATA to IDE converter.

All if does is connect to the on board IDE controller and has SATA ports on the reverse side to connect your hard drive. Now after we install the converter, we then formatted the hard drive, one partition, and hoped for the best.

Now the problem is after the format, the PC does NOT want to boot from the hard drive to finalize. Ive checked the BIOS and the strange part is that it does recognize the hard drive, but still wont boot from it. Already changed boot priority, messed with a field labeled "IDE options" and the closest I can get is a error that says "A disk read error occured Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart"

If anyone can offer any piece of advice for me, that would be great, my assumption is either MAYBE the hard drive is bad, although it was recently purchased, or maybe I need to flash the BIOS to offer some more options, but thats just my guess, thanks guys!
